About the Empire State Building:
It is not an exaggeration to say that pride built the Empire State Building. This Attraction in New York was built at a time where there was a race to see who in America could build the tallest building, besting the Eiffel Tower. The Chrysler Building was under construction, and no one involved with that project would say how tall the building would be when finished. This meant that the creators of the Empire State Building had to beat a height without knowing exactly what they were trying to beat.

Their solution? Set out to build the tallest possible building. The original plan for the Empire State Building only included 80 floors. When the builders got wind that Chrysler was going higher, they added another 5 stories. This alone would have been sufficient to beat the Chrysler Building, but not by much. That is why the Empire State Building builders added the dirigible mooring station. It would give blimps a place to land and ensure the Empire State Building’s place as the world’s tallest building.

Upon completion, the Empire State Building was an impressive 1250 feet tall. The Chrysler Building was 1046 feet tall. Only 11 months after its completion, the Chrysler Building was forced to surrender its title as world’s tallest building.

Today, the Empire State Building is a popular Attraction in New York that draws millions of visitors each year. Visitors can ride the elevator to the 86th floor (the ride takes less than one minute) and enjoy the views from the building’s two observatories.
