About the American Museum of Natural History:
The American Museum of Natural History, which opened in 1869, is one of the most popular New York Museums. Visitors of all ages love to come and explore the Museum’s 27 interconnected buildings which house 45 exhibit halls that make up the Museum’s permanent collection.
Exhibit halls include the Hall of African Mammals, Hall of Meteorites, Hall of Ocean Life, Hall of Gems and Minerals, Fossil Halls and the Hall of Human Origins. This New York Museum also hosts interesting temporary exhibits and boasts a planetarium and a research library that is open to the public.
The American Museum of Natural History’s collection includes more than 32 million specimens across several categories such as plants, animals, meteorites and more. Even though this New York Museum is one of the largest in the world at 1.6 million square feet, only a fraction of the Museum’s artifacts can be on display at any given time.
The Museum has been featured in both books and movies including the beloved book The Catcher in the Rye and the movie Night at the Museum.
